“‘When I Loved Somebody Like You’ is about the memory of a great love which is packed like a suitcase to carry onwards into the rest of a person’s life. I guess each relationship has a legacy of some good and bad memories which all exist after a relationship is over.

“During the recording process, we made sure that we left a lot of ‘musical space’ in the arrangement of the song, which paired up incredibly well with Doug Lancio’s lead electric guitar part. I sang all the backing myself and we kept on adding lower vocal parts to give it a lot of vocal warmth.

“When I sing this song live, it really seems to connect with people from both a lyric and music point of view. My favourite memory of singing this song live was at an outback pub where people spontaneously got up and slow danced. I had to keep adding solos and extra choruses because the moment was so magical.” David Willersdorf

When I Loved Somebody Like You

Verse 1:

I’ve been searchin’ for somebody now
Somebody who’ll be lovin’ me, be lovin’ me
I’ve been thinkin’ about, been thinkin’ about
What it means to be livin’ free, livin’ free
Well, I’ve got a suitcase of memories
A mind that’s full of you and me, of you and me, Oh

Chorus:

When I loved somebody like you
When I loved somebody like you, Oh
’Cause we’d always find our way though
When I loved somebody like you
Oh, Oh

Verse 2:

Well, time keeps me movin’ on, movin’ on
A little minute, a little day by day
Well, our love keeps hauntin’ all my hopes now
You are only a heartbeat away
Well, I’ve still got this suitcase of memories
A mind that’s full of you and me, of you and me, Oh
